Publishing a project

Publishing a project is required before employees can begin tracking their time and expenses against the project.

To publish a project:

  1. Verify that the project's schedule, budget and resource allocations are within scope.

  2. Save the project.

  3. Click the Publish toolbar button .

You may be prompted to level the project before publishing.

Once published, the Project Planning tool project is displayed in the rest of the software's views and tools. However, editing restrictions in those views are enforced. In general, a Project Planning tool project can only be modified using the Project Planning tool; some exceptions apply. The project is displayed in other administrative views for reviewing and reporting purposes.

Warning: You can publish with placeholders. However, the placeholder assignments are not available for time entry and any budgeted time and costs associated with the placeholders are not shown in other administrative areas of the software such as the Project Assignments and Budgeted Time & Costs views.

Notes:

  • The published project's schedule is automatically saved as the project's Current Plan for the Progress view. If you plan to use and compare multiple baselines throughout the project's progress, we recommend that you save a named baseline after a project is published for the first time or when re-published after changes have been made.

  • When you edit an existing project and then re-publish it, all resource assignments are updated.

  • In the editing process, if a task that has actual hours entered against it is deleted, then those hours are lost when the project is republished.

  • You can print the project plan by clicking the print button located in the Chart section of the toolbar.
