Bar charts
are most commonly used to compare data, such as costs, shown on
the vertical axis (Y-Axis) with the data categories organized
along the horizontal axis (X-Axis).
For Bar charts
-
The X Axis drop-down
list is the field where you pick what item is shown along
the horizontal baseline of the graph. These are normally object
names (projects, tasks, employees, etc.) or dates.
-
The Columns
list box shows all available data to be placed as a vertical
bar in the graph (hours, costs, etc.).
Example
for a chart comparing client and company costs by project.
-
From
the X-Axis drop-down,
select the category of data to display along the horizontal
axis - select Project Name.
-
Select
the data columns to
place in the report and move them to the
Columns Selected list - select Actual Company Costs and Actual
Company Costs.
-
If
only 1 data set is selected as a column, then only the 5 top
(highest) values are displayed in the chart as columns. All
others are combined into a 6th column labeled 'Others'.
-
If
2 or more data sets are selected, then the report displays
all as individual columns.

a Bar Chart report from scratch are located in the Create
new report topic.
